Ligatures are a piece of gear that many saxophonists have fought over for years. I have seen sought-after professionals use several hundred-dollar ligatures, and distinguished professors use a very basic $25 ligature. Personally, I would argue that as long as the ligature securely holds the reeds on the mouthpiece and doesn’t move when you adjust the mouthpiece, you’re good! But, just like most of us, I like a little “bling” sometimes. I recently had the opportunity to try out the KGU Music Leather Ligature & Cap set for the alto saxophone.
